Document Summary
Module #3: classical conditioning: classical conditioning: unconscious, reflexive learning is vital to the survival of a specie"s classical conditioning. Instrumental conditioning: allows us to associate actions and consequences. Ivan pavlov: when an organism learns the relationship between a signal and event, a contingent relationship has formed between the two stimuli. A response is unconditionally and automatically triggered in the absence of any learning. For example, food placed in a dog"s mouth or a slice of lemon will naturally trigger a response without any training: unconditioned response (ur): the specific response that an unconditional stimulus triggers is called the unconditional response. The response is often a biologically programmed reflex: conditioned stimulus (cs): a previously neutral stimulus that becomes associated with an unconditional stimulus, to eventually trigger a response on its own. It is paired with the unconditioned stimulus to produce a learned contingency.
