4 types of instrumental conditioning: presenting or removing a positive reinforcer and presenting or removing a negative reinforcer, presenting positive reinforcer (increases the frequency of the behavior) . Example: for every a grade billy receives, he is given. : presenting negative reinforcer (decrease in the behavior being reinforced) . Example: if billy fails english, he will have cut the grass every week in the summer: removal of a positive reinforcer (decrease in the behavior being reinforced) . Example: if billy fails a test, he doesn"t get any dessert that night. Removal of a positive reinforcer does not equal presentation of negative reinfocer: removal of a negative reinforcer escape training. Example: when billy gets a good report card, he doesn"t have to do his chores for a week. All types of instrumental conditioning benefit by the immediate presentation of the consequence following the response.
