James wrote about the topic attention and defined it as follows: It is the taking possession by the mind in clear and vivid form, of one out of what seem several simultaneously possible objects or train of thought . It implies withdrawal from some things in order to deal effectively with others, and is a condition which has a real opposite in the confused, dazed, scatterbrained state . Attending to something causes the object of attention to be selected apart from the rest of the unattended objects. First put on clothes, you feel the fabric on your skin, throughout the day you are unaware of these sensations as they face into the background noise os stimuli competing for your attention. Some stimuli can trigger your attention automatically.
