Document Summary
Classical conditioning: allows us to associate two related events. Instrumental conditioning: allows us to associate actions and their consequences. Russian ivan pavlov- created foundation for classical conditioning (pavlovian conditioning: stages of digestion, salvation of the mouth as food was first ingested, observation: dogs would salivate before food was in the mouth. Conditional reflex: dog get used to sound of metronome, hearing it makes them salivate. Later event that are paired in time and/or space. E. g- citric acid from lemon and salivation of your mouth. Simply imagining it might also make you salivate. We"ve learned a contingency between sight of lemon & salivation in mouth. Sounds, smells, sights, etc. used as signals. Unconditioned stimulus (us): any stimulus or event, occurs naturally, prior to learning. (trigger response without training) e. g. lemon is the us, automatic response. Unconditional response (ur): when a us occurs a ur always does too.
