The scientific method: provides a 7 step recipe for how to collect and analyze info while trying to minimize biases or conflicts. The scientifici method: construct a theory, generate a hypothesis, choose a research method, collect data, analyze data, report the findings, revise existing theories. Scientists will start off studying existing info which helps them to construct their. Theory: collect a general set of ideas about the way the world works. Theory then guides the creation of a testable statement called: hypothesis. Hypothesis: form a testable statement guided by theories that make a specific prediction about the relationship between variables. Collect data: take measurements of the outcomes of the test. Analyze data: understand the data collected and discover trends/ relationships btw variables. Report findings: publish articles in scholary journals. Revise theories: incorporate new info into our understanding of the world. Determine the way in which the hypothesis will be tested. Theories are continually being revised to account for new info.
