They prevent individuals from adapting well to their environment: exception, danger: Someone willingly chooses to stop functioning in daily living activities: danger to oneself or to another person, dangerous behaviour alone does not indicate a psychological disorder, many people partake in dangerous behaviours everyday (i. e. athletes, firefighters, police officers) Is the classification missing the bigger picture: diagnosis, most widely accepted and comprehensive diagnostic system, classifies psychopathology. Study of distribution of psychological disorders in a population: disorders often differ based on sex and culture, mdd (major depressive disorder) more common in women than men, prognosis: If a patient isn"t exhibiting symptoms at that particular moment, that does not mean he/she does not have the psychological disorder: lifetime prevalence: includes anyone who has the disorder, or had the disorder within their lifetime. Interferes with daily tasks and relationships: worry about minor things, sweaty palms, heart palpitations, difficulty concentrating. Intense need to be perfect: tense, dizzy, sleep problems, muscle tension, headaches, fatigue, nausea.
