Foundational topics of 1xx03: development: gene-environment interactions across an individual"s lifespan, evolution: gene-environment interactions across the evolutionary history of a species, neuroscience: the study of the nervous system. In difference situations, you need to overcome your past learning to use the optimal strategies. It is less obvious that learning can affect maturation: without some minimal level of input to learn from the outside world, maturation will be absent or delayed, the interactionist"s perspective is central to developmental psychology. Interactionist perspective plays an important role in understanding inherited traits, prenatal development, and how our nervous systems develops across a lifespan. When a novel stimulus is presented, an infant will initially show a burst of activities. If a child fails to perform a certain task, this may reflect a genuine lacking incompetence in the cognitive ability of interest. However, a child may have indeed developed the cognitive ability of interest yet still be unable to perform the task.
