PSYCH 1XX3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Visual Processing, Occipital Lobe, Dishabituation
Document Summary
Interactionist perspective: the view that holds that maturation and learning interact during development, maturation affects learning in which an essential system is in place before learning proceeds. Example: you won"t talk until your mouth and tongue have reached a certain level of dexterity: learning can affect maturation. A child given proper nutrition but isolated in a dark room, unable to play or interact with anyone you would expect problems developing normal vision, speech, motor and social skills. The developmental changes in the early years play an important role in who you are: there are 4 methods, studying development: When a novel stimulus is presented, an infant will initially show a burst of activity. As the same stimulus is repeatedly presented, the infant"s responses will return to baseline levels (habituation): an increase in the responsiveness to a stimulus that is somehow different from the habituated stimulus.
