A person with lat or blunted afect shows very litle emoional response. A paient with inappropriate afect shows emoional reacions that are inappropriate for situaions (laughing when someone died: catatonic symptoms- movement behaviors not associated with environment (e. g. extreme rigidity); unrelated to simuli from outside world. Catatonic rigidity or catatonic stupor- dramaic reducion in movement to the point of ceasing to move at all; may maintain single posture for long ime and resist being moved. Waxy flexibility- in some catatonia, paient"s arms and legs can be moved into variety of posiions like a wax igure and then very slowly move back to the original posiion.
