Constructivist children contrsut their own knowledge, do not want it handed to them. Maturationist learning will emerge in a certain order, nothing can change order or timing. Goal is cognitive equilibrium (what the child knows & what child is experiencing is in balance, child is happy) Discomfort is caused by cognitive disequilibrium (exploring something they do not know or understand) But within the confines of what they already know. Organized pattern of thought or action constructed to interpret our experiences. Schemes are theories or ideas we have of how things in our world work. Ways of interpreting information to understand world around us. Cognitive development is development of increasingly complex schemes. Assimilation - process by which children interpret new experiences bu what they already know. Child has a dog and sees many dogs, understand that every 4 legged furry creature is a dog. Accommodation when you change existing knowledge to understand something new, modify existing structures to interpret new info.
