It"s important to highlight that we will never find where the causes of psychopathology come from. We can never really study cognitive functioning with regards to the symptoms of mental disorders: example we cannot ask mice, how are you feeling today? or are you seeing things that others are not? . The more you know, the more you become ignorant dr. dick day. Doesn"t divide disorders up into organic categories. Idea that everything was going to be simple. Same symptoms and causes of disorders could be different for different individual. Impairment criterion: symptoms that impair one"s ability to function, example dsm, not pathological. In practice, both the patient and the clinician come to a conclusion about the patient"s impairment. Clinician/diagnostician makes a subjective judgement using the dsm to determine whether the individual had a problem or not. Judgement of abnormality is neither right nor wrong: draw a conclusion to elevate symptoms and find the best source of treatment for patient.
