Eysenck"s pen theory: have to think of the pieces of personality as hierarchically organized. Individual act - something as basic as a simple muscle movement, or single thought (any action or act: number of acts can be solely motor or solely cognitive or intercorrelated, habit, higher level construct. Intercorrelation between our trait positions, defines personality factor: trait, broadest level of analysis, various component pieces of personality, top 2 are primary. First we consider actions then the organization of actions through habits. Introversion and extraversion based on arousal: reticular activating system ras, associated with arousal level, ras slows down, we fall asleep, extrovert arousal: eysenck argued that the extro version-introversion dimension was based on cortical arousal. That arousal was, in turn, related to the activity level of the ras. Somatic disorders (physical: antisocial behavior (breaking norms) Few introverts in prison: criminal behavior exciting, raising arousal for extraverts.
