We all conform, if we do not conform we"re a social outsider. Anything you"re doing that other people are doing, makes you fit in, makes you likeable. Even when conforming makes us look very silly. We do what others doing, we follow others. We"re curious about what other people do, we mimics them. Types of social power (french & raven, 1959) Coercive power: when someone punishes you for not conforming, can be physically harmed, tangible (something taken away from you), non tangible (they could reject you, hate you, embarrass you) Informational power: some person or group that will provide you information that is powerful, someone who knows more about you about a circumstance that you are unsure/uncomfortable about. We want to be liked respected, etc. All about being liked and fitting in.
