PSYCH 2C03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Hindsight Bias, Internal Validity, Scientific Method
Document Summary
How people"s affect, behaviors, and cognitions are influenced by the presence of others. Hindsight bias looking into the past and thinking yeah i totally saw that or could have predicted the right answer. Can we say x caused y: 2. Generalizability (aka external validity : can the findings be applied to others, or just relevant to the group being studied. Correlational studies: research question, how are 2 or more cariables related, methodologies used, surveys, correlation does not equal causation, confounds are findings that show for example, c causes both a and b. It is hard to prove findings with just correlation. Lab experiments: done in a lab under strict, controlled conditions. Independent variable (iv) is manipulated by the experimenter: keeping everything the same but the independent variable is referred to as internal validity, dependent variable (dv) is measured by the experimenter.
