Document Summary

Behaviourism: watson & raynor, 1920, behaviour is learned and shaped by consequences, most behaviours can be explained by learning experiences, behaviours can be altered by changing the environment, ex. Mental hygiene movement: making improvements in understanding, treatment, and prevention of disorders in adults. Child guidance movement: childhood experiences and behaviours were viewed as influencing adult mental health, so treatment of mental health/behavioural problems in children became the focus. Multidisciplinary teams: psychologists, psychiatry, social worker, special education, paediatricians, occupational therapists, teachers, education assistants, school admin, etc, everyone working together with the families to develop an intervention plan, therapeutic alliance. The dpp integrates our understanding and study of normal developmental process with those of child and adolescent psychology. Physical development: walks independently and seldom falls, squats to pick up a toy, stacks two objects or blocks. Play: parallel play watches other children playing without playing with them. Interacting with familiar others: plays two-and-fro games, enjoys social interactions.
