How do you study religion: you can observe someone anthropological approach of religion, textual approach, archeological approach what people were doing, living, the study of architect, art historical closely related to archeological, carvings, paintings, manuscripts. You"re bound to what the person your observing is saying. We don"t have all of the buddhists books so theirs gaps in our knowledge. Also getting the right translation of the buddhist text the translation can be different. We base out knowledge on a small fraction.
