Connecting out ideas, feelings, behaviours, relationships to our wider society (both local, global contexts, past and present) It is a way of understanding and contextualizing one"s personal experiences. Sociologists use divergent theories and qualitative methods to try to understand society sociological imagination. Connecting individual experiences which may be a personal problem which he called a private struggle. Individual experiences connected to a social context-- a broader social context. Examples: unemployment, divorce divorce: increasingly secularist, financial strains/conflict unemployment: not enough jobs, depression, women growing in work. People living longer have to stay married long. Declining stigma reducing the amount of stigma of divorce. Women"s labour force participation financial means to support themselves and to exit abusive marriages. Higher expectations (what qualities do you seek in a partner?)
