Gender gap in income is a stable feature of the labour market. Women"s unpaid employment constrained by their caregiving responsibilities. Horizontal occupational sex segregation (jobs people have) Different jobs for men and women pay differently. Male dominated elds vs. female dominated - give rise to gender differences in terms of pay, opportunities or promotion of holding position of authority. Declining due to women moving into male dominated elds. Within same occupation differences in income (women earning less - lawyers, pharmacists, etc. ) Paid (paid employment) and unpaid (housework, caregiving) labour are mutually reinforcing: channeling women towards caregiving and lower-paying jobs domestic labour. Women earns less than husband = women to be at home with baby = pursue part- time employment. Women do more unpaid labour than men and these gender inequalities persist amount dual- earner families where women work full time. Greater sharing among same-sex couples, younger couples, and women with greater educational attainment.
