Religion:- a set of organized beliefs about the supernatural or spiritual worlds and their associated ceremonies that guides people"s behaviour and joins them into communities of believers. Faith:- a belief system based on conviction that does not required objective evidence to substantiate its claims. Theorized that religions evolve from simple and primitive to modern and complex overtime. Animism:- supernatural beings or spirits are believed to inhabit both living things (plants, animals, people) and inanimate objects (mountains, rivers) Polytheism:- society recognizes a set of independent supernatural beings or gods, belief in many gods: diffuse polytheism:- all gods are considered equal, hierarchal polytheism:- gods are ranked in importance or power. Monotheism:- religion identifies with a single, all-powerful, all-knowing god. Social scientists dispute tylor"s stages, arguing that religions do not progress along a simple and universal line of development. Contemporary social scientists see religion as equally worthy, with no one religion better than the other.
