Courtesy stigma: when stigma is extended to those closely connected with stigmatized ind"s and groups. Stigma management strategies: efforts that ind"s engage in to, control the information about spoiled identities, minimize the damage that stigma inflicts. If you can hide it, you can pass as a normal: possibility of hiding and therefore bring it, they will try passing as normal. No one knows about it; you don"t have to deal. In situations where you can"t pass, you try to engage in behavior that minimizes the negative judgement. Strategies that lessen the blow that the stigma does.
