Individual is set on a path to developing a deviant id. Path often follows a particular trajectories of pattern. Begins when individuals move from innocent id - good guy . To id as different" or other" - dishonest , sicko , criminal . Our perceptions of who we think the individual is , changes. We become unsure of who they really are . Occurs in a series of stages or careers. When successfully labeled (label sticks), the individual becomes" a different kind of person. Label has consequences for individuals future social participation. Label has consequences for the individual"s self image.
