The family was the unit of production and consumption. As the development through time, we see more structured positions in the family. In canada, small scale farming was disappearing b/c of the factories in the 19th century. Industrial capitalism emerged in the mid 1800s. Men during this moment in time were responsible for many things as they had many chores/responsibilities. Marriage was seen as the career of a woman. The happiness of women depended on the happiness of men. Parsons thought that a nuclear family would fit best with industrialization. Conflict perspective comes out of marxist perspective. Described that social change emerged from a dialectic that moves history forward. His analysis of capitalism features the family. Wives and children constitute the first property for men. From german ideology, states that the natural division of labour is still elementary. She argues for equality for women in education, voting, etc. they don"t challenge women"s responsibilities inside the family (mary wollsencraft)
