Work role model societies that we live in are influenced by male work model through socialization. Calls for full time continuous work from graduation to retirement. Self fulfillment of men come from their paid work. 3 principles from the work role model for men: need to work from graduation til death, jobs should be their central focus, fulfillment comes through work roles self actualization, expectation for men. Taxonomy developed by potucheck (1992, 1997) cited in nelson, 2010: 220. Shift to factory based textile production and industrial capitalism: productive activity linked to production of exchange (associated with the market place, economic dependence on males, demise of handicraft system (alexander, 1989:40) Demand that wages should be set high enough so as to allow a male wage earner to support his wife and children. Assumption that man had dependence so they were paid more than women even if they had the same job.
