Lecture 5-7 karl marx (sept 21to sept 28) Marx, weber, & durkheim all lived through the industrial revolution & rise of capitalism & all wrote about it in very diff ways (what they lived thru affected what they wrote) This changed the entire course of marx"s life. It ended his wishes of the chances of marx"s decision to be a lawyer. In this uni he took elective courses in philosophy & became interested in philosopher of hegel this influenced his thinking. He completed his philosophy undergrad, but went further & completed his phd in philosophy (1841) After he graduated w. his phd he tried to secure employment, he had a lot of decisions in being a prof but hit a major road block, he ended up being black listed in university of berlin. They weren"t going tolerate that marx was questioning their work.
