Review of part i -- lectures 1 --> 16. Talked about the enlightenment and the conservative reaction of the enlightenment. Developed a scientific approach, and laid the ground work for a scientific approach. Wanted to keep things the way that they were, oriented towards social order. The enlightenment and the conservative reaction to the enlightenment we seen to major strands that began to influence social thought, a focus on social change and a focus on social change. Gave us the term sociology and also gave us positive psychology. Spoke about different stages in sociological thought, understanding the world through religion to understanding the world through philosophy. Positive stage a stage through understanding the world through science. Led to the notion of positivism, focuses on trying to understand the world in a way that is grounded and scientific. Comte ideas paved the way for durkheim, durkheim spoke about the needs for sociologists to focus on irregularities in societies.
