Attempts to re-interpret, revise or update marx"s theoretical ideas so that they better explain more recent developments in capitalist society. Approaches within early neo-marxian theory: 1890s-1940s, after the death of marx (1988, two examples of neo-marxian theory, economic determinism, hegelian marxism. The early works of neo-marxism was either wrote in german or italian, many english speaking ppl had no knowledge of what marx or the neo- However, parts of marxist writings were available in english by the 1950s and then it became accessible by english scholars. Some early neo-marxists translated into english by the 1970s. There were two marxian influenced theorists who played a role in this critique. Dahrendorf, gave us a theory of conflict, and in giving us this theory of conflict, and he gave a critique of the focus on social order, and also critiqued the lack of attention to social conflict.
