Lecture 1-4 sociological theory (sept 7-sept 14) Abbreviations: rev - revolution, probs - problems, cent - century, expl - explanation, trad - tradition, w. - with, b/w - between, imp - important, rel"tnships, smth - something, diff - different. E. g included chaos and disorder as these revolutions caused upheavals in society. Early theorists were interested in restoring social order. That concern w/ restoring it is quite evident w/ work of early theorists. Farming manufacturing factories: in capitalism; factory owners were exploiting factory workers, there were negative reactions to rise of capitalism to emerge of ind rev. Negative reaction - the labour movement emerged to fight for the right of workers being exploited by these factories under capitalism. All talked about ind rev and rise of capitalism in their own different ways, aka diff interpretations. E. g karl marx talked about need to engage in act of overthrowing capitalism, for workers to rise up and overthrow it and replace it with socialism.
