Challenged prevailing ideas about sex and dethroned marks, The history of sexuality- textbook study of rise, development & effects of a specific configuration of discourses & social practices around sexuality. At a certain point in time social forces came together and created the way sexuality was talked about, sexual behaviour as characteristics of an individual and pathology at a particular socio-historical moment in the west. Which creates regimes of truth: facts and knowledge about sexuality. The institutions talk about sex in certain ways and this becomes the truth about sex in societies constructed. Our society comes to think of things as facts that are social. Foucault during victorian era: there was a discursive explosion around sexuality. Lots of talk abut sexuality in different institutions, especially what is abnormal rather than repression" of sexuality, which means it was not talked about. Sexuality was talked about but in particular ways e. g. as pathology, perversion, in need of control also during this period:
