Document Summary
Module 6: burnout, hurried children, hurried parent types (parts b, c, d) Hurrying children is harmful and the child may experience burnout depending on the pressures put upon them. Elkin describes 5 stages of burnout, that apply to adults lives as well. This speaks to an individual starting something new and looking forward in a positive manner to what is in store for them. Young children are often eager and happy with the thought of starting school, a bold step forward. They have high expectations and this allows for the moment of potential fear of the unknown. Parents often support their children to take this step. Soon endless demands are made on the child to learn new things in a less than supportive environment. Competition forces the individual to call upon energy reserves that are not always being replenished. A fuel shortage results and the child displays dissatisfaction with school, sets poor work habits.
