Those of you who continue on in social work will take whole courses on each level. Readings are meant to be an overview of a topic. Macro level practice of social work policy and research. Social policy defined: (in reading) but in short, a social policy is about social purposes and the choices between them it"s about guiding principles that may be motivated by basic need. Brand (bigger picture, national level) and ordinary (health and social service level) social policy. It is important because what happens at the brand level (national, provincial and local level) that the government adapts will affect all in terms of approaches to equity. Legislation: acts of parliament, federal/provincial governments, bylaws and municipal governments. Planning and policy: systems or sector wide services within geographic communities.
