Socially constructed: our understanding of the world (events, objects, social phenomenon) is made ( or constructed) in the interaction between each other primarily through language, complex can be subjective or objective. Social problems are complex social constructs: subjective, objective and ideological, multiple definitions, interpretations and solutions. There is no consensus on a definition but are typically involve common elements: a societal condition, significant, considered undesirable, rectifiable- solution. Blumer"s stages of a social problem: social recognition, social legitimization, mobilize for action, develop a plan and implement. Personal deficiency- the individual is the site and solution of social problems: how social problems are interpreted. Liberal humanist0 how the individual interacts with the environment. A focus on strengths and capacity to better fit to their environment. Interact with environment, strength is with individual, generally seen as good and people help when they don"t fit in environments. Social change: social structures, and institutions design systems to maintain oppressive social relations.
