Psyc 2219 - lecture 7 - death in the lives of adults. Generally within the age groups of emerging adults (18 to 25) and the early years of young adulthood (20 to 40) Metacrises: crises related to incidents that occurred out of phase with the students" chronological age. A large number of college students are within twelve months of a family or friend death. Bereaved students are at risk for decreased academic performance and dropout. Car accidents are the leading cause of death for college students. Question traditional religious values and spiritual development. The death of a close friend is a loss that evokes grief similar to reactions following the death of a relative. Friendship bonds may be similar or more important than family ties and encompass many kinds of relationships. Grief can include a variety of emotions (sadness, relief, anxiety, regret) Represents loss of nurture and unconditional support. Siblings may experience death in very different ways.
