Skin functions: largest organ in the body, epidermis -> dermis (hair follicles, sweat glands, capillaries and small arteries and veins) -> subcutaneous tissue (rich vascular supply) If goes through kidney, could cause renal failure. wires. Curiosity of children leads to this: electricity takes path of least resistance, going through organs. If the path: electrical e. g. , sticking knife in socket, contact with high voltage electricity, radiation e. g, sunburn or exposure to uv light. Minor burns: cleanse with tepid water (cool, but not freezing) and soap, partial thickness - sensitive as in if even cold air blows by, may cause pain. Can have damage to hair follicles and nerves, depending on how far the burn is. However, the peripheral skin surrounding the burn can cause excruciating pain itself. Major burns: cardiovascular, renal, gi (all burns, pulmonary (inhalation burn, muscle breakdown causes muscle wasting, body temp reset at about 38 degrees. Emergency management: d & e (depth and extent)
