Characteristics of child abuse
-boys experience more severe types of battery
-sexual victimization the victim is female
- higher rates of neglect and physical abuse of families who live in poverty and
these can be some of the most severe cases we see.
-class is a huge factor that shapes child physical abuse and neglect but does not
affect child sexual abuse
-children that have disabilities can be children at greater risk to experience abuse.

1) individual pathology model, is an argument that says the abuser is sick,
medical model to explain the actions of the perpetrator.
2) Parent-child interaction model, parent child relationship has chosen
problems from the beginning. Poor attachment to the child, (special
needs, come into family not at infancy) role reversal between the parent
and the child, the parent expects the child to meet the needs of the
parents, (disability, addiction, cognitive impairment) social learning
theory, you are hurt as a child, when you grow up you become the
abuser, the learn what they live.
