Graff and birkenstein outline 3 ways for responding to what they say and 3 ways of responding form the basis of what i say : agree, disagree, agree and disagree. State your position offer one of these responses and stating it clearly. You agree with what they say but add more. Might extend the argument that another has made or redisplay on insight. Be precise make it clear which parts of the argument you agree with. Disagreeing with someone"s argument can effectively situate your own identify what you disagree on and why by signalling what they missed/failed to consider/ assumed. Demonstrate how to correct the matter in your argument. Most natural position to take and produce balanced arguments. State what you agree with and what you do not agree to show originality. Use clear markers to distinguish what you have to say from what they said.
