Many national-level laws and regulations carried out in reference to these. Initially prohibited the taking or killing of right whales, now regulates all whaling. Convention on conservation of migratory species of wild animals. Protects all listed species of wild animals that migrate across or outside national boundaries and provide for the development of agreements to conserve particular species. Prohibits all salmon fishing in the northern pacific ocean and its adjacent seas beyond the 200-mile exclusive economic zones. Convention on international trade in endangered species of wild flora and fauna. One of the largest conservation agreements in existence. Aim to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival". Grants varying degrees of protection to more than 33 000 species.
