All these different religious issues- idiom to solve many other issues- language, political, economic etc. Look at the way popular religious ideas were held. 2 halves: the unofficial church or religious figures, beliefs or institutions that re not official but still major aspects of the religion. Monks and nuns in byzantium- played a large part: they were common, everywhere and involved in dealing with all the issues of the empire. Emerged in 3rd c and early 4th c rooted in the same circumstances that brings the changes in politics and social organization of the roman world of that time rooted in the crisis form the mid- 3rd c.
