Document Summary
Thinking is governed more by appearance than logical necessity. Because their thinking is not governed by the logical principles of reversibility, compensaion and idenity. Qualitaively diferent reasoning (eg. in conservaion problems) Piaget viewed the concrete operaional stage as a major turning point in cogniive development. Physical operaions now internalized and have become cogniive. Co-ordinaion of muliple dimensions: children now coordinate several aspects of a task rather than centering on only one. Capable of basic inducive reasoning, but diiculies with deducive conclusions. Seriaion: the ability to order item along a quanitaive dimension. Concrete operaional thinking sufer from one important limitaion: children think in an organized, logical fashion only when dealing with concrete informaion they can directly perceive. Diferent conservaion problems solved at diferent ages. According to piaget, the capacity for abstract thinking begins with the formal operaional stage. Adolescents reason much like a scienist searching for soluions in the laboratory.
