The distillery district: pre-industrial phase (1830s 1861, toronto was a service and trade centre back in 1830s to 1861 and ships across the world. It"s hard to compete with two giants; usa and great britain because they"ll just crush you with no competition at all. Usa and great britain because we were such a small manufacturing country in comparison. Therefore, a table here would cost and usa selling would cost selling in canada. Putting a tariff of on that table meant that it would end up costing for the american table so the canadian table wouldn"t seem so bad anymore. Canadian (then it got competitive: before, you would see a lot of factories in toronto but now it"s the opposite. Eaton centre was actually a factory and became a retail mall.
