Applications there is different software for different purposes. Editing digital images for variety of final media output from web to commercial print. A file can contain: vector data, bitmap data, both. Resolution independent (vector: unless images are placed. Don"t use apple preview for pdf for press! Need special software to open, edit, save. Most widely used for high res print. Supports layered files; allows for edits to be made in photoshop. Large file size in exchange for high quality. Do not edit jpegs: go back to the original file and re-export a new jpeg. Technically lossless but lots of data lost from colour info. Do not lose quality if zoomed and resized. Every element/attribute in svg file can be animated. Total number of pixels an image can be. Calculated by multiplying the height and width of an image for the ppi: e. g. an 8x8 image at 300ppi (8x300x8x300 = 5 760 000 pixels)
