Background information:
Sephora is a beauty-retail company founded in France by Dominique Mandonnaud in 1970.
Sephora has been carrying all kinds of brands and their products. Sephora carries many brands
such as Calvin Klein, Bobbi Brown, Gucci, Huda Beauty, Nars, Marc Jacobs, Make Up For Ever,
Urban Decay, Origins, Prada, Tom Ford, and many more. Sephora has all kinds of products for
Skincare, haircare, color, fragrance, body, smilecare, and not only that they have their own
private label as well. “Today, Sephora is not only the leading chain of perfume and cosmetics
stores in France, but also a powerful beauty presence in countries around the world” (Sephora
About Us, n.d.). Mandonnaud had changed the way beauty was sold; his message was clear,
“buy before you try”. He physically put all kinds of products around the whole store for the
clients to try it on. He gave his clients the freedom to freely discover, try on, touch, and smell the
products before they could buy it. Sephora runs around 1,900 stores around the world in 29
countries. It has 360 stores in North America and opened its first Canadian store in Toronto in
2004. “Sephora's North American headquarters is located in San Francisco, with corporate
offices in New York and Montreal” (Sephora About Us, n.d.). Sephora’s goal within the industry
is very clear. "From the very beginning they wanted to be transparent, using direct language in
all their communications” (Muller, n.d.). As Sephora is about a “fun” spirit and an attractive
cosmetic brand, they also wanted to convey those values to potential hires; Sephora has a wish
to create a ‘unique job experience’ for every candidate, and by extension recruit the right
people” (Muller, n.d.). So, Sephora’s goal is very straightforward, all they want is a place to be
fun/attractive, and give their candidates the values and experience they deserve.
Process Identification:
The process I am considering consists of consumer complaints and reviews. The department
that I am considering for this business case is the customer service. My process is customer
checkout and to reduce long line ups and cash out customers as fast as possible (saving time).
The process will fix this problem and make the business more efficient by making more money
and saving time. So, the scope is to avoid having long line ups and some of the stakeholders
who will be helping us in this process are ITAB, NCR, and Wincor-Nixdorf.
Problem Identification:
The area that needs improvements in this company is the customer service. It needs a solution
to this problem very fast before it gets out of control and loses their clients. If it gets out of
control, the company can lose a lot of money and drop by 0.2 billion a year in total. The problem
is long line ups, and no response to emails. This is a problem because the customers are
waiting for too long in line ups to check out. They are being processed by checking them out by
the employees which takes time that causes other clients waiting in line.
