A tort is a failure to fulfill a private obligation imposed by a law or a failure of duty or care. Tortfeasor is a person who commits a tort. Tort law includes almost every sort of private law wronging, not including breach of contract. The social purpose of tort law is to discourage people from committing private wrong doings by requiring them to compensate and restore the wronged party. Tort victim may seek compensation in civil court when wronged. Civil litigations happen after criminal proceedings and tort law takes place there. Same event may be both a tort and a crime: ex. Beating is both a tort of battery and crime of assault. Occurs when a person intentionally acts in a defined wrong way: depending on the tort, it can be either: Interference with contractual relations, unlawful interference with economic relations, deceit, interference with chattels.
