Laws are intended to protect the health and safety of workers by minimizing work-related accidents and illnesses. Laws fall into 3 categories: general health and safety rules, rules for specific industries, rules related to specific hazards. Based on principle of joint responsibility between worker and employers. Take every precaution to ensure the health and safety of workers (due diligence) Comply with occupational health and safety regulations. Advise and instruct workers about safety to ensure that all responsibility. Non-adversarial atmosphere where management and labour can work together to ensure a safe healthy workplace. Usually consists of between 2 and 12 members. Broad range of responsibilities eg. investigate, monitor.
