NUR 80A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Imrad, Deeper Understanding, Grounded Theory
Document Summary
Reliability, validity, and trustworthiness: reliability: the accuracy and consistency of information obtained in a study, validity: this concerns the soundness of the study, specifically how logical and well grounded the study is, trustworthiness credibility and triangulation. Credibility: how well the research methods speak promote confidence in the truth of the data and its interpretation. Triangulation: use of multiple sources or referents to draw conclusions as to what constitutes this truth. Research control: controlling certain aspects of the study to decrease other the distortion of the relationship between the variables of interest. Experimental: researcher is actively introducing an intervention or treatment, they are testing cause and effect. Phenomenology: concerned with the lived experience, grounded in ideas about philosophy, these researchers tend to be interested in individuals. Phase 3: the empirical phase: empirical= observable, researchers go and collect the data for the study, preparing the data for the analysis.
