Document Summary

Modern: people are unable to cope with natural disaster as they are reliant on technology. Modern times: technology (assembly line) is unnatural they are alienated from the work that gives them satisfaction not doing anything interesting. Two approaches: holistic technology: existed since beginning (people that actually made things, ex. Process of creating something from beginning to end. Rewarding process due to attachment to good that is made. Control their own pace of work: prescriptive: assembly line mass production (standardized process). Workers in those environments are only involved in a small part. Speed isn"t controlled; you control someone else"s speed. Worker is alienated from what he produces. Society: tramp is someone who is cut off. Love: the tramp finds true love and walks into a new dawn of a premodern age. Modern technology: further pulled society in, there earlier had elsewhere to go but now nowhere to escape.
