Sensory memory (sm): high capacity, very brief, has impact on sensory mechanism, attention is important * Each sense : has its own form of sensory memory, vision is called iconic memory, lasts about one second, and is gone. Simply repeating the stimuli in the same form: elaborative rehearsal. Links stimuli to each other in a meaningful way. Elaborative is usually more effective, consistent with levels of processing models. Three levels: visual, phonological (sound-related) and sematic (meaning- relating)
