Document Summary
Psychology: the scientific study of behavior and mental processes, and how they are affected by an organism"s physical state, mental state, and the external environment. Look at the brain level (genetics, inside brain, etc. ) Look at person level (thoughts that can cause behavior) Look at group level (friends or family or culture they have) It is difficult to do this research because of reactivity. (if someone knows you are watching them, they will act differently) Each of these studies is a distinct framework for the study of behavior and mental processes. Sensation: passive (light waves come into your eyes and affect your brain, sound waves affect your brain, chemicals go in your mouth and affect your brain, pressure, feelings all go into your brain. Perception: active (what your brain does with the sensations). You select what you want to pay attention to, you organize it, and interpretation (selective attention)
