Synesthesia: a subjective experience of an aspect of a sense other than the one being stimulated. Ex/ when a particular number or letter triggers a colour; two aspect of vision triggers each other: other form can be when one sense triggers a completely different sense. Ex/ when a sound triggers a colour: psychological and neurobiological reality. When someone says feel certain thing (ex/ synesthesia) they were looked upon negatively; told they were lying or called crazy and accused of being on drugs. Brain regions for different sensory modalities cross-activate each other. Basics of sensation and perception: definitions: sensation the act of using our sensory systems to detect environmental stimuli. When you smell something and take in chemicals in the air. Raw sensory data: vision light waves, hearing sound waves, smell airborne chemicals, taste food chemicals, touch pressure, perception recognizing and identifying sensory stimulus. When you make judgements of the sensation; ex/ when you recognize a smell as good or bad.
