Order theories conclude social inequality is inevitable. Change theorists belief race of life will never be fair, do not advocate for equality of outcome because inequalities are necessary to reflect different levels of individual contribution and effort but focused on equality of opportunity. Essence of liberalism is fairness and equal opportunity to compete, structured inequality is acceptable as long as the race for positions appears to be reasonably fair. Absolute poverty: unable to meet basic needs. Licos - 20% more of their income (than the average family) on basic needs with different cut of ranges, account for regional differences. Lim - income below the median level, allows us to identify averages, more reasonable statistic to assess themselves. Mem - income needed to afford basic necessities, regional differences considered including more than basic needs. Status symbols: mannerisms, speech, hovies, dress, food preference that mark one"s social status - socially created and change over time.
