A social movement is a collective of people or groups who come together around a common social issue in order to bring about or resist fundamental changes in an existing group or society. Social movements are, rstly, movements: they change, shape shift, adapt, move. The conscious feeling of a negative discrepancy between legitimate expectations and present actualities. A group will not mobilize into a social movement unless there is a shared perception that is relative deprivation can be ended only through collective action. The ways a social movement utilizes resources (such as money, political in uence, access to the media, and personnel) Success of a movement will depend on what resources it has and how e ectively it mobilizes them. Tends to focus on more than just economic issues, often transnational. Collective activists that address values and social identities, as well as improvement in the quality of life: anti-globalization movements.
